TATAMISER Co., Ltd.

We want to spread the Tatami lifestyle in Japan and the world.
Orders pour in from the USA and Singapore

The challenge was to find a partner who had knowledge of eBay and who is familiar with cross-border EC in a comprehensive and international way. The number of products and SKU's was too large to put in a single product, so TATAMISER needed to use a separate bulk listing tool, and at the same time TATAMISER needed to finish the project in time in order to use the SME grant.

As a result, TATAMISER was also selected for a grant from the SME EC Mall Support Program. Even now, TATAMISER is selling well and most of the time they will ship the orders over 200,000 yen in each order to Singapore, South East Asia, North America, etc. The eBay listing fee was less than half of the market price and j-Grab were able to complete the project in a short time.

TATAMISER Co., Ltd. operates a mail-order site specializing in size-ordered tatami mats so that our customers can easily enjoy high-quality and fully customised real tatami mats.Since 2017, as for the cross-border e-commerce business, we have opened and sold our products at overseas e-commerce malls such as eBay and Amazon.

After graduating from university, I had involved in the tatami industry due to my father’s tatami material wholesale business. The number of domestic tatami companies has been decreasing year by year due to the declining birthrate, aging population and the declining population. Also, it was not an environment where everyone can easily enjoy tatami mats, so I tried selling it in a style that our tatami mats fit the size measured by our customers so that they could easily put the tatami mats in the room, and it was accepted, so I had founded TATAMISER in 2015.

As for the point of contact with j-Grab, I met Mr. Yamada, a cross-border EC expert, at the "Cross-border EC Marketing Support Project" organised and sponsored by the SME Support Japan. We were applying for a subsidy to open a cross-border e-commerce mall, and we were successfully selected then we decided to put up a lot of listings on eBay. However, listing on our own can be a daunting task, so when we consulted with j-Grab, who has two former eBay employees, we decided to use a bulk listing tool to list all at once.

In addition, although we had exhibited our products on Amazon.com and constitutes a multifaceted sales floor, it has not yet reached full-scale sales, so we have to worry about various things in order to start full-scale cross-border EC business from now on. Most of the selling countries are English-speaking countries like United States and Singapore, which the customers giving good responses where it doesn't hurt when flooring by using tatami mats, and more and more people are buying it for Zazen.

Recently, we have also opened an EC site specializing in materials so that tatami materials can be used for furniture and handicrafts. In the future, even in an era of declining birthrate, aging population, and declining population, we would like to further strengthen information dissemination overseas and let a wide range of people in Japan and overseas know the charm of tatami mats.
